The Ohio Dairy Goat Association sponsors the annual Buckeye Sale to raise the funds to support dairy goat research. At the same time, the Buckeye Sale is a way of spotlighting high-quality animals from around the country. Each year, the Buckeye Sale committee strives to make the sale bigger and better than the previous year, and this year is no exception. Please read the following information carefully before submitting your nomination, as your sumbission indicates that you have fully read and agree to our terms and conditions. Nomination forms are available here
| Information | |
| Entries for consideration to the 2009 sale must be receive by July 10, 2009 to be considered for entry into the sale. The sale committee reserves the right to extend the deadline if necessary for breeds that have no entries. Four copies of each nomination form must be included in your entry packet. This change was implemented in 2004 to ensure high-quality entry packets were sent to each judge as well as to the webmaster for scanning / the Buckeye Sale Committee for record-keeping.
In order to have unbiased and informed selection of nominees, nominations are sent to three independent ADGA lisenced judges for review. Entry packets are judged using a scorecard method based on the photos, pedigree and other information submitted. A total of 100 points will be possible, with 20 possible points each going to the front, side and rear views of the nominee, 30 possible points going to the ADGA pedigree and 10 possible points going to other information such as DHIR records, HES or LA scores, show wins, etc. Animals scoring below an average of 65 total points will not be accepted into the sale, even if they are the highest scoring animal of their breed. This measure has been taken to ensure that only the highest quality animals are offered. Once judges have tallied their final scores, an original copy of the score sheet will be sent to three independent representitives of the Buckeye Sale for review. The highest scoring animals of each breed will then be accepted into the Buckeye Sale, and the owner will be notified. All of those who nominate will be provided with a copy of their animal's score sheet upon request. Entries will be accepted for: Alpine, LaMancha, Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian, Oberhasli, Recorded Grade, Sable, Saanen and Toggenburg. The goal of the sale has always been to offer a doe and a buck of each breed, however, quality is top priority, and therefore two nominees of the same gender may be chosen and some breeds may not be represented. Along with the implementation of the above mentioned changes, the Buckeye Sale committee is striving to ensure high-quality nominees as well as competitive bidding. With all of these changes, along with tried and true methods of previous sales.
